  • Restart the device and open your browser to confirm whether the problem has been resolved.

Problem 2: Problem with ActiveX Filtering Disabling Java and Flash

It is always advisable to keep your web browser updated, except when using a software which requires you to use an older version of that browser. Internet Explorer 9 normally comes with ActiveX Filtering, a new feature that enables you to browse the internet without running ActiveX controls. These are simply plugins such as Java, Silverlight, Apple QuickTime and Adobe Flash Player. Older versions of these plugins are vulnerable to exploits and can cause your device to be infected.

The ActiveX Filtering feature, which is always disabled by default, offers an easier way to keep your internet browsing activity safe. ActiveX filtering can prevent your YouTube from working.

To resolve this problem, follow the steps below:

  • Go to the ActiveX setting by opening your Internet Explorer browser.
  • Go to Tools, click on Safety and select ActiveX Filtering.
  • Uncheck it and see whether it helps.

Problem 3: YouTube Video Not Playing in Internet Explorer on Vista

When trying to stream a YouTube video using Internet Explorer on vista, you may realize that nothing happens. Instead, you will only see a blank spot on your screen. To resolve this, try the solution below.

  • Right click on the standard streaming window (The non-full screen of the video).
  • From the pop-up menu on the Flash Player, select "Settings".
  • Uncheck the "Enable Hardware Acceleration" option.
  • Click on "Close" and you will be done.

Problem 4: Internet Explorer Not Opening Hyperlinks to Video or Audio Files

When you click on any hyperlink to a YouTube or media file, on your Internet Explorer browser, you expect the Windows media player to open and start playing it automatically. However, this functionality may be disabled if you install a third party player. Upon clicking on such a link, you may receive an error message stating that Internet Explorer cannot display that Webpage. This happens when the file type association or MIME settings are altered by the third party application. You can follow these steps to resolve the issue.

To avert this problem, you can download such a file locally by right clicking on the hyperlink and selecting the "Save Target" option. You will also need to reset Windows Media Player as the default player. Below are the steps that will enable you to do that.

To fix the IE YouTube problem on Windows XP:

  • Go to "Start" and click on "Set Program Access & Defaults".
  • Click on "Custom" and select Windows Media Player. Then click OK.

To fix the IE YouTube problem on Windows Vista:

  • Click on Start and select "Default Programs".
  • Click on "Set Program Access & Computer Defaults".
  • Go to Custom then select Windows Media Player and click OK.

Once you have finished the above steps, click on "Set default program" and select Windows Media Player as your default program.

Problem 5: YouTube Problems Caused By Internet Explorer Browser Cache

Your browser cache and temporary storage for the downloaded files can also prevent the streaming of your YouTube videos.

To solve the YouTube problem in IE caused by Cache:

  • If you have Internet Explorer as your browser, search for "Tools" and click on "Delete browsing history".
